Presenting data, in engaging ways, can help citizens to make better decisions and choices about their future. In Cornwall, where we live, there are 7,370 citizens claiming Jobseekers Allowance and 71,000 economically inactive. The average cost per person per year of someone on benefits is est. £50,000. We believe data can help to solve great social and economic challenges of our time, such as unemployment and deprivation. With Technology Strategy Board investment, we would like to pilot how publicly available data can connect citizens with employment opportunities – upskilling the local workforce so they can access the future knowledge based economy – and explore with the TSB the commercial benefit to businesses and citizens.
