Alex Stanhope, Lead Technologist Creative Industries, Technology Strategy Board
Alex was appointed Lead Technologist for the Creative Industries in January 2009.
Alex graduated at the top of his class with a BSc in Computer Science from Bristol University, winning the Bull Prize. He stayed on to lecture in Databases and Digital Media for three years.
Alex started his career in industry in 1996, working at IBM Hursley Park on Java and IP Telephony and later KPMG in Information Risk Management. In 2000, Alex setup a small consulting practice serving a variety of media clients in the UK television sector and US film industry.
He returned to the UK to be Technical Lead for the Broadbandshow, a DTI-funded Broadband initiative in 2003. The following year he founded a Digital Media agency called Lightenna and worked on accounts for Lexus, Boots, XMOS Semiconductor and Haymarket Publishing while supporting several start-ups as an investor and Technical Director. He is a Fellow of the British Computing Society, a Seedcamp mentor and sits on the board of Queen Mary College London’s Digital Media programme, Media Sandbox and Microsoft’s Interoperability Council. Alex spoke at the inaugural C&binet event on metadata and convergence.
