Dr Bernie Rickinson, Chief Executive, Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining
Graduating in metallurgy, with subsequent research activity at Sheffield and MIT involving solidification of metals, Bernie was involved with NASA, Pratt and Whitney and Rheocast Corporation in the US, before returning to the UK in 1977. He developed for Osborn Steels a new and novel process for the rapid solidification of highly alloyed steels before moving into hot isostatic pressing technology in the mid 80’s. Over the next decade he developed Bodycote as the world leader for Hot Isostatic Processing services and became a plc board director for Bodycote in 1996. Currently operating as the Chief Executive of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, Bernie has actively involved the Institute and its members to support the work of the Materials KTN and has taken a specific interest in broadening networking links between the materials and product design communities. He leads the design exchange activities for the KTN.
