Master Inventor, Member of the IBM Academy of Technology Visiting Professor, University of Newcastle upon TyneAndy Stanford-Clark, IBM Distinguished Engineer and Master Inventor, will introduce the world of Pervasive Messaging - linking sensors and wireless devices to enterprise systems. Andy will describe features of his home automation system, including power and water usage monitoring, remote control of electrical appliances from his mobile phone, and his electronic mouse traps! He will describe other applications of this technology, including vehicle telematics and assistive technologies for people with disabilities.
Dr Andy Stanford-Clark is an IBM Distinguished Engineer, and a designated "Master Inventor" with more than 40 patents to his name. Andy is based at IBM's Hursley Park development laboratories near Winchester, UK, and specialises in message broker technology, remote telemetry, Internet technologies, and Pervasive computing. For the last nine years, he has been working on high-performance publish/subscribe messaging systems, in particular in the area of telemetry integration, and leads an Advanced Technology team at IBM, building the technology to integrate data from remote monitoring and control devices into business applications. Andy has a BSc in Computing and Mathematics, and a PhD in Computer Science, both from the University of East Anglia. He is a visiting professor at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.
