Frank Boyd, Consultant, Creative Industries KTN
Frank Boyd has been one UK's new media pioneers since establishing the Arts Technology Centre (Artec) in 1989. Amongst other activities, Artec developed the first vocational training course in digital media in the UK and the European Multimedia Labs. He was a founder member of the UK's Digital Media Alliance and BAFTA’s Interactive Entertainment Awards before joining the BBC Innovation and Learning as Director of Creative Development. At the BBC Frank directed training and development labs for interactive television, broadband and cross-platform production.
He established Unexpected Media in 2002 to support innovation and creative research in future media, designing and directing Innovation Labs for the BBC and other clients. Since 2007 he has been director of the international Crossover Labs programme in Australia, Canada, Scandinavia, the Netherlands, Italy and the UK. He has directed a series of new media training events for commissioning editors at Channel 4 and for 4iP. Through Crossover he is working in collaboration with the Sheffield Doc/Fest to establish an international market for new digital and cross platform formats, projects and services.
He is currently consulting for the Creative Industries KTN on issues and research themes related to Convergence.
