Dr John Sime, Deputy Director, Biosciences KTN
During 17 years in pharma John was as a medicinal chemist, worked on metabolic disorders, did biosynthetic pathway elucidation and subsequently moved into industrial biotechnology (IB) in which role he led the SmithKline Beecham R&D effort worldwide. Then nine years as R&D Director for an SME applying IB to the food and cosmetics industry in a company that grew to having a production plant in France and commercial products on the market. Three years with Novacta Biosystems as Business Development Director, building the services business in Industrial Biotechnology (IB) was followed by his move to the KTN where he is Deputy Director for Biosciences KTN and head of the IB Sector Group. John has BSc and PhD degrees in chemistry from the University of Edinburgh and is a Chartered Chemist and Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry [CChem, FRSC].
